Kinderfeets is the product of award-winning designer and Netherlands native, Oscar V. Mulder. Bicycling is a way of life while growing up in the Netherlands, therefore Oscar wanted to share that lifestyle with his then two-year old son, Sebastiaan, in San Francisco.
Inspired by traditional Dutch bikes, Kinderfeets is a play on words for the Dutch word “kinderfiets” which translates to “child’s bike.” Kinderfeets is a small training bike with a low step-through frame without pedals that allow children’s feet to touch the ground—it’s the best way to prepare them for learning to ride a full-sized bike. The collection has now grown to several different children’s bikes, all with unique features to help them learn balance and become comfortable with pedals and riding. The award-winning quality push-bike models are eco-friendly and feature a whimsical, patented design.
Bamboo is used primarily for Kinderfeets bikes. There are many benefits to using bamboo that we took into account. Bamboo is stronger than steel and heartier than most hardwood, making it a versatile and valuable building material. That means a high quality, high-durability bicycle.
Bamboo is also eco-friendly in many ways. It produces more oxygen and absorbs more carbon dioxide than trees. While hardwood takes 30-50 years to mature, bamboo takes between 3-5 years and requires no pesticides or chemicals to encourage the maturation process.
Bamboo is grown in developing countries, so we are proud to support a sustainable way of living for many impoverished populations. Our commitment to Mother Nature is at our forefront, and using bamboo is just one way of giving back.
